The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims the Cabinet Paper tabled pertaining to importing fuel for the long-term from Dubai is a fraudulent transaction of the government.
Speaking to media in Haputale today, Parliamentarian Harin Fernando said approval was granted to pay 50 percent of the payment in dollars and the remaining amount in rupees, when purchasing fuel from the relevant supplier.
MP Fernando charged the government of attempting to earn profits while the people are suffering.
The Parliamentarian also claimed the Dubai-based firm does not have a website and only has four employees.
He said details of the relevant firm were investigated by a group of individuals adding it is unclear how the firm sources the fuel.
He added standard tender protocols were not followed adding there has never been an instance where payments for fuel shipments were made in rupees.
He also raised concerns over whether the Dubai-based firm was importing fuel from Russia.
On a separate note, MP Harin Fernando claimed there is an attempt to increase electricity tariffs by 500 percent in future.
He said an individual operating a small restaurant who receives an electricity bill of Rs.50,000 at present will have to pay Rs.250,000 following the price hike.
The MP added that control of local power plants generating over 700MW including the Yugadanavi Power Plant and the Kelanitissa Power Station will be vested with the US firm New Fortress.
MP Fernando charged the present administration of selling state assets to the US, India and China.
