Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella says several programmes have been launched to modernise the country’s postal service.
Speaking during an event Minister Rambukwella said as an initial step the people’s trust must be built on the state postal service.
Minister Rambukwella said at first Sri Lanka Posts was considered a small institution adding however with time he realized it was a sleeping giant.
The Minister noted under the programme to modernize the postal service a Cabinet Paper was tabled to deliver number plates through the postal service at a minimum charge.
He added the fee will be used to develop Sri Lanka Posts.
The Minister said several cash on delivery programmes that were launched recently and the courier service were a success and several similar programmes will be launched to monetize Sri Lanka Posts.
