Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says the government has decided to invest funds in export crop development as a solution to the dollar crisis.
The Minister addressing Parliament this afternoon said short and long term programmes will be organised for this purpose.
Minister Amaraweera noted the government has already taken steps to provide aid to farmers for export crops including tea and cinnamon, in order to strengthen the economy.
The Minister added such relief is provided to farmers as an investment.
He claimed unlike the Samurdhi benefit and other concessions provided by the government, the country will reap the benefits of aid provided to farmers, and receive dollars as well.
Minister Amaraweera said funds must be allocated for short and long term programmes in order to resolve the dollar crisis.
