Minister Gamini Lokuge says the present government has been successful in mitigating the COVID-19 crisis and creating an environment where citizens are able to carry out their duties.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Minister Gamini Lokuge said although the opposition cast doubt on the ability of the government, it has managed to exceed expectations.
The Minister said the government is conducting its activities in an orderly manner at present.
He said the present administration has been able to vaccinate around 75 percent of the population including children while booster shots are also being administered to selected groups.
Minister Gamini Lokuge said he also contracted the novel coronavirus a few weeks ago but recovered after receiving treatment, which is a testament to the medical services available in the country.
He also noted that the government has allowed the opposition and the public to express their views, adding that protest marches are allowed in the country despite concerns over COVID-19.
He said they won the election democratically and are now governing the country while ensuring the freedom of citizens.
