The Opposition charges the government of handing over shares of the Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya to an American company, as a solution to the dollar shortage.
Speaking during a media briefing Parliamentarian SM Marikkar said the dollar shortage has worsened due to the government’s mismanagement of the economy and exports.
MP Marikkar claimed that the nearly 200,000 Sri Lankan expat workers had returned to the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said due to the reduction in tourist arrivals, the government has lost a considerable income as well.
The MP said although now efforts are being made to attract tourists and foreign investors, the government will fail in its efforts.
MP Marrikkar noted that the government is using its legislative victory to pass detrimental laws and even sanctioning money laundering which will discourage genuine investors.
He said since the government is facing such issues, it has now resorted to selling valuable state resources such as the Yugadanavi Power Plant.
