The JVP says the governments non-scientific decisions resulted in the increase in the price of rice.
Party Leader Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake speaking at a media briefing said media gimmicks will not support efforts to reduce rice prices.
MP Dissanayake said within a few months the most number of gazette notifications were issued pertaining to the price of rice.
He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited rice vendors and staged media spectacles while the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority also visited rice vendors and large-scale mills.
MP Dissanayake added the Minister of Agriculture failed to grasp issues surrounding the price of rice.
He said the Minister was adamant in Parliament that a rice mafia was defeated.
He said the Minister claimed that not a single grain of rice will be imported adding the country will export rice instead.
The Parliamentarian questioned whether this industry could be controlled by mere words.
