Trade unions in the education sector say authorities must bear the responsibility of the decision reached by the Ministry of Education to recall students of all grades to attend school from today.
When inquired by NewsRadio, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said health and education officials must direct more attention towards the impact of the Omicron variant.
Jayasinghe said the government announced that all students will be summoned to schools from today.
He noted however the union is of the stance that decisions pertaining to bringing children in to schools must be reached based on the recommendations and advice of health officials.

He stressed therefore the decision to call all students to schools should be reconsidered under the prevailing situation.
He reiterated that if issues arise as a result of the decision to call all students to schools, the government must take responsibility.
