President of the All Island Canteen Owners Association Asela Sampath has requested the government to shut down the Consumer Affairs Authority, that is protecting businessmen and not consumers.
Speaking at a protest opposite the Consumer Affairs Authority today, Sampath said spending public funds to maintain such an institution is futile.
He questioned President Gotabaya Rajapaksa over whether the rice imported by the government was sourced from organic farms, not using chemical fertiliser for cultivation.
Asela Sampath added the same promise of concessions was made on imported sugar, but to no avail.
He said the President came in to power promising better standards of living but has failed in executing his duties.
Asela Sampath called for the funds spent on maintaining the Authority to be used for education, as officials at the CAA were influenced by businessmen.
