The government stresses that an election will be held before February next year.
Speaking to media in Embilipitiya today, State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura said the 6.9 million voter base garnered by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election, will increase to 7.9 million at the next election.
The State Minister was confident that his party is ready to claim victory and any upcoming election.
He recalled how the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna won the 2018 Provincial Council Election majority while being in the opposition.
The State Minister assured that the government will focus on reducing the price of goods and serviced, to ease the burden on the public.
He also commented that the government is ready to amend any unfavourable clauses included in the Employee Provident Fund Surcharge bill.
He said not only the EPF, but several businesses and private sector establishments will be subject to the new tax.
The State Minister accused the opposition of representing the wealthy individuals who will have to pay the tax.
He assured that no State sector employee or pension holder will be affected due to the surcharge.
State Minister Wakkumbura pointed out that the tax will be imposed to develop public services.
