The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the decision to appoint Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the next Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka is a political appointment of the government.
Speaking during a media briefing Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said through the move the Central Bank, which is an independent institution, will become a political headquarters.
MP Attanayake said the Governor of the Central Bank, Professor WD Lakshman made a grave statement to media regarding his resignation, highlighting challenges he faced when carrying out an independent programme to manage the country’s economy and various interferences.
The MP added the CBSL Governor had claimed he was unable to manage the economy due to political interference.
MP Attanayake stated the Central Bank becoming a political base is a grave situation.
