Minister Ramesh Pathirana says the general public should not panic or have undue fear over a food shortage in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Minister Pathirana admitted that at present they are facing certain issues, but claimed that the government has taken several measures to prevent a shortage.
The Minister said the public can utilise the concessions provided by the government and grow vegetables at home to counter the price increases.
He said they will provide rice and other essential items without any shortages.
Meanwhile, speaking at the same briefing, Minister Dallas Alahapperuma said they cannot confirm the stock of rice due to be received by Sri Lanka from China had been produced using organic fertiliser.
