Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara has dismissed assertions that the government has been taking action and attempting to silence those demanding justice for the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Weerasekara said the opposition is continuously accusing the government of targeting victims of the Easter attacks.
He said innocent people who were in churches and hotels had to pay with their lives when Zahran Hashim and his associates detonated bombs.
Minister Weerasekara claimed the bombs went off since those responsible did not arrest the terrorists despite receiving state intelligence reports.
He also noted that eight other incidents also happened prior to the Easter attacks which should have alerted authorities to take action against terrorists.
Minister Sarath Weerasekara said it is humorous that those who were governing the country and were responsible for preventing the attacks are calling for justice on behalf of the victims of Easter Sunday attacks.
