Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera says religious extremism which encourages violence and brings down the values of human achievements in a ruthless manner, must be condemned.
Making a special statement regarding Priyantha Kumara, who was murdered by a mob in Pakistan, Gnanasara Thera said the government must intervene and serve justice to the relatives of the deceased, and ensure such barbaric extremism does not exist within the country.
Gnanasara Thera claimed there are severe consequences of extremism adding that Islamic extremism is the most brutal form of extremism.
The Thera reiterated that extremism brings down the value of the achievements of humans including science, technology, knowledge, culture, civilization and philosophy.
He claimed it is a form of brutal extremism that allows thousands of people to watch a man being burnt alive, record the incident and take pleasure in it.
Gnanasara Thera said it shouldn’t be considered a minor incident and the true story behind extremism must be looked into deeply.
