The JVP has condemned the government and its manner of governance after gaining votes by promising prosperity.
The party expressed its regret at the public having to stand in queues for essential commodities owing to the short-sighted actions of the government.
Politburo member of the JVP Former MP Sunil Handunnetti addressing a rally in Kandy yesterday said the Rajapaksa family rule has provided comfort to a certain group of individuals while the general public has been dragged public to the streets.
He charged that during the COVID-19 pandemic innocent lives were lost due to the government’s mismanagement, with education halted for two years.
Handunnetti added the government also imposed a ban on chemical fertiliser, hampering the livelihoods of farmers, who to date are suffering without fruitful harvests.
He said fishermen meanwhile cannot go out to sea owing to the fuel shortage.
The former MP accused the government of failing to practice what they preached.
