The government has reiterated that there is no fuel shortage in the country.
Speaking in Parliament today, Chief Government Whip Minister Johnston Fernando said an artificial fuel crisis has been created by groups that are working to topple the government.
Minister Fernando said the general public has been provoked by certain political groups.
He said the public is carrying out panic buying at present and therefore long queues have been observed at filling stations.
The Minister said he was also forced to be in a fuel queue this morning. Minister Johnston Fernando stressed that adequate fuel reserves are available at present despite the operations of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery have been suspended.
He assured fuel will be made available from filling stations and requested the public not to panic.
Minister Johnston Fernando was responding to a question raised by the opposition in Parliament today pertaining to the purported fuel crisis.
