Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage says the government has tabled a successful Budget for the year 2022 focused on the country’s development despite having to face many global challenges.
Speaking during the Budget debate yesterday in Parliament, the Minister said despite the challenges a positive Budget has been presented by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa.
He said while two years have been completed since President Gotabaya Rajapaksa assumed office in November 2019, 20 months alone was spent combatting and battling the coronavirus pandemic to ensure the safety of the people.
The Minister said due to the President’s timely actions the country can now move forward having mitigated the coronavirus pandemic.
However, he noted that as the country was closed along with airports, the tourism sector was severely affected and all avenues of state income were affected.
Minister Aluthgamage said therefore the government has presented a Budget that benefits all individuals alike.
