Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has requested the President and the government to accept responsibility for the present crisis and step down from their posts.

The Cardinal addressing a media briefing today said the present government has no ethical right to remain in power any longer.

Cardinal Ranjith said the arbitrary and short-sighted decisions of the government during the past two and a half years led to the present turmoil and charged that the government has no plan nor vision to solve the present crisis.

The Cardinal added the public has a strong sense of dislike towards the government and also lacks faith in the government especially as the Rajapaksas continue to remain in power.

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith urged that the public not be left in anguish any longer and to grant the people their rightful futures.
