Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the government has decided to provide a bag of goods worth Rs.1,998 instead of the Rs.5,000 allowance to low income families.
MP Premadasa said statements made by the government that the package will be delivered with no delivery charge is also false.
MP Premadasa said the price of a kilogram of sugar was Rs.160 last week and has been increased to Rs.210 in a week.
The Opposition Leader said there is an abnormal shortage of milk powder in the market and an unusual increase in the prices of many consumer goods including fuel, gas, rice, medicines and bread, adding it indicates that the government has lost control in price control.
He stated despite the government stating that there is no shortage of medicine, subject Ministers have made various requests for drugs through Ambassadors.
The statement said information stored in the cloud database of the National Drug Regulatory Authority, including information on prescriptions, orders and registrations, being erased is a matter of serious concern.
The Opposition Leader added that an accurate and impartial investigation should be carried out to determine whether a racket is underway.
