Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana has failed to confirm whether Chairman of India’s Adani Group, Gautam Adani has met with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for talks.
Speaking during the weekly Cabinet decisions media briefing, Minister Ramesh Pathirana said they have received reports that Gautam Adani is in Sri Lanka on a private visit.
When questioned by media pertaining to the purpose of his visit and reports that Gautam Adani had visited Mannar yesterday, Minister Pathirana said since his company had expressed willingness to invest in Sri Lanka, he is probably looking at business opportunities in the country.
The Minister said Gautam Adani and his Adani group have also expressed interest in developing the West Container Terminal of the Colombo Port.
He said however no official statement has been made regarding the matter.
Minister Ramesh Pathirana added that the government is looking for foreign businessmen to invest in the country since they are facing a US dollar shortage.
He said they believe it is the responsibility of the government to create a favourable environment to conduct business and attract foreign investments.
Minister Pathirana said lately foreign investments have reduced drastically and therefore the present administration is taking several measures to increase FDIs.
