The All Island Farmers Federation charges the government of failing to uplift production in the country’s agricultural sector.

Speaking during a media briefing in Anuradhapura, representatives of the Federation claimed attempts are underway to cover-up the government’s failures with the ban on chemical fertiliser.

Representatives claimed while the government promised to provide free fertiliser and a fair price for paddy, in the Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour national policy framework, the government has failed to fulfil its promises.

Representatives said farmers are burdened due to the ban on fertiliser, and claimed the government has allowed their associates to gain excessive profits, by reducing the price of paddy.
