Leader of the National People’s Power Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake today commented on the decision by the Consumer Affairs Authority to recall sealed domestic gas cylinders issued to the market before the 4th of December.
The MP charged the government of failing to address legitimate concerns of consumers.
Speaking in Parliament today, MP Dissanayake said consumers are living in fear adding they are forced to wear helmets while cooking and open doors for ventilation.
The MP said 430 incidents of explosions were reported within a week.
He questioned whether consumers purchase gas cylinders for the purpose of collecting them as the Authority had said it will only accept sealed cylinders.
MP Dissanayake said the public stood in queues to purchase gas cylinders with the aim of utilising them.
He questioned whether the government has any mechanism on identifying which cylinder may explode.
The MP urged the government to provide a solution at the earliest.
