The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna questions whether the separate request made by 10 parties affiliated to the government for the President to impose a lockdown was due to international pressure.
Speaking during a media briefing Minister Gamini Lokuge said it is unacceptable to issue statements to the media without discussing it with the Cabinet of Ministers.
Minister Lokuge claimed the opposition and trade unions are attempting to disrupt the government’s activities adding he regrets the actions of certain government members who are also supportive of such actions.
The Minister said the 10 parties discussed and reached an agreement with the President during the Cabinet of Ministers meeting adding however they issued a letter subsequently.
He said they could have raised their concerns with the President during the meeting.
Meanwhile, joining the media briefing the General Secretary of the SLPP Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam called on the President to conduct an immediate inquiry into the incident.
MP Kariyawasam said strict action must be taken against individuals who are working against the government while affiliated to the government, holding Ministerial portfolios and claiming its perks.
