The Inter University Students Federation charges that a government that lacks a people’s mandate is engaged in suppression citing the Constitution.
Convenor Wasantha Mudalige speaking to media yesterday said the government doesn’t have a majority nor does it have public support.
Mudalige said the President is bringing about Acts and is using the Constitution to indicate his power, and charged that he is merely afraid.
Mudalige claimed that the people’s struggle ousted former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who had a 6.9 million voter base and former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who had a 2/3rds majority, and claimed that the present government is not a challenge.
He said the President’s end is nearing, and urged that he arrests more protesters, detain them, and hold them in detention for years, adding that people’s struggle will not end as the people’s issues are yet to be resolved.
