The Samagi Jana Balawegaya today questioned the President’s Media Division as to how it determined that yesterday’s protest in Mirihana was attended by a group of extremists.
Addressing a media briefing Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara said suspicions have arisen over whether an outside group joined the protest as an act of sabotage.
MP Nanayakkara said when such suspicions were emerging, the President issued a statement within two hours of the incident abating.
He questioned how the government identified the purported extremists during such a short period.
MP Nanayakkara added if footage from the protest was viewed with intent it is apparent that protesters did not carry sharp objects or clubs in hand as stated in the President’s statement.
The Parliamentarian said the extremists termed by the government are in fact Rajapaksa extremists.
He added these are attempts to sabotage the island wide protest that is being planned on Sunday.
