The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims the government is destroying the country by making false claims of patriotism.

Speaking during a media briefing Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne said Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara claimed he will resign if the government seeks assistance from the International Monetary Fund.

The MP noted the government sought assistance from the IMF adding however Minister Nanayakkara continues to hold his Ministerial portfolio.

He noted the President is attempting to blame the present crisis on the former good governance government adding however during the term of the former administration food and other required goods were imported to the country.

MP Senaratne said there was no shortage of essential food items and foreign reserves during the term of the former good governance government.

He added inflation and the prices of goods were also lower during the term of the former government.

The MP said the importation of around 1,000 goods is banned at present adding there is a shortage of goods while the country lacks foreign reserves.

When inquired by media regarding Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa’s visit to India in order to obtain a loan, MP Rajitha Senaratne claimed it is a temporary solution.

He said goods can be obtained with the loan and questioned the government’s economic programme thereafter.

MP Senaratne charged the government of using temporary solutions to resolve issues in the country by obtaining loans from various countries.
