The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says the government will continue to work with the government of Pakistan to take all necessary steps for the future of the children and family members of Priyantha Kumara, who was murdered by a mob in Sialkot, Pakistan.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Foreign Minister GL Peiris said the government is committed towards their future well-being.
Minister Peiris said they are in constant communication with the Pakistani government pertaining to matters including obtaining financial compensation.
The Minister said the Pakistani government has assured it will provide daily updates on investigations.
He said remains of Priyantha Kumara will arrive in the country this evening adding SriLankan Airlines, the government and the Pakistani government are coordinating matters.
Minister Peiris said this was an unimaginable incident adding such incidents pertaining to a Sri Lankan has not been reported previously.
The Minister conveyed the government’s condolences to the family members of the deceased.
