Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says the government is committed to making Sri Lanka a sustainable global maritime hub in the region.
The Prime Minister made this observation delivering the keynote address, virtually, at the World Oceans Summit Asia-Pacific yesterday.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka, as an island nation in the Indian Ocean has a great responsibility to respect its people and the Indian Ocean.
The regionally-focused World Ocean Summit Asia-Pacific virtual event under the theme “Investing in a blue economy” is being held from December 6th–10th 2021.
The Prime Minister said as research and development require significant financial and human resources, developed countries armed with sustainable maritime technology and knowledge are invited to assist developing island nations in improving maritime well-being and enhancing marine biodiversity.
