Gampaha Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne today directed the Government Analyst’s Department to submit a detailed report regarding the camera found in a women’s toilet at a private education institution in Gampaha.
Court issued directives to determine if photographs or videos were taken through an external controller or device.
Police sought Court permission to direct the camera that was found in the toilet, an inch and a half long cable, and a power bank that were seized to be used as Court produce and to be directed to the Government Analyst for investigations.
Court informed the Government Analyst to report to Court immediately on six matters including the type of device, its functions, and manufacture country.
Police also informed Court that the individual who installed a CCTV camera in the toilet has not been uncovered yet.
Court emphasized that the administration cannot shun away from responsibility over the incident if the toilet is located within the premises of the private education institution.
Court ordered Police to conduct a stringent investigation into the incident and to arrest those responsible and to produce them before Court.
Police said statements have been recorded from students, staff, and parents as well as a number of teachers at the institute.
