The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the recent rally in Anuradhapura confirmed that constituent parties which assisted in the formation of the government are no longer with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Parliamentarian Gayantha Karunatilleka said the SJB is ready to face any forthcoming election.
MP Karunatilleka said the present administration has begun to feel political pressure and therefore commenced the ‘100,000 Projects’ rural development programme to mislead voters and also have felt the need to organise political rallies.
The Parliamentarian said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa extended a challenge to the opposition during the rally to prepare for elections in order to test the public mandate.
The MP said Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa gladly accepted the Prime Minister’s challenge.
MP Karunatilleka urged the government to hold any election without delays allowing the public to express their views.
Commenting on attempts to increase prices of fuel, the MP said the fuel pricing formula was greatly ridiculed at the time when introduced by former Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
He added however those who ridiculed the formula now praise it during the Vote of Condolence for the late-Mangala Samaraweera in Parliament.
MP Karunatilleka claimed the purpose of the former government was questioned if fuel prices were to be determined based on a pricing formula.
He said all those individuals are now in favour of introducing a pricing formula.
The Parliamentarian said all sectors of the country will be affected and the public will be further burdened if fuel prices increase once again
