Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana today said the government led by the President accepts complete responsibility for the difficulties faced by the public owing to the queues that are forming for fuel and gas. Minister Pathirana speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing this morning, was questioned over the deaths of individuals at fuel and gas queues during the past week.

In response the Minister said this is a sensitive matter, adding that the government is doing its utmost to address the prevalent economic situation promptly. Minister Pathirana also expressed his regret over the recent developments adding that the public granted the government a mandate and vowed to do its utmost to fulfil their tasks diligently.

The Minister claimed given the circumstances, certain matters are beyond the control of the government, adding that several factors have contributed to the present developments including the rising prices of crude oil in the world market. The Minister noted the present crisis has become a complex matter and pledged that the government is prepared to make sacrifices and dedications towards addressing all grievances.
