The government today condemned the killing of a Sri Lankan in Sialkot, Pakistan yesterday.
Leader of the House of Parliament Minister Dinesh Gunawardena expressed the government’s condolences over the incident.
The Minister said they were disturbed by the horrific incident, and praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for intervening in the matter.
Parliamentarian Shantha Bandara stressed the Sri Lankan Embassy in Pakistan must to do more in terms of ensuring the safety of many Sri Lankans employed in Pakistan.
The MP said Sri Lankan foreign employees and the Ministry of Labour must take the initiative to protect Lankans from extremists.
Minister Bandula Gunawardana called on the Speaker of House to hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart, and obtain Parliament support to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara also expressed the Oppositions condolences over the incident.
Citing foreign media reports, MP Bandara stressed the Lankan Embassy in Pakistan must be more updated over such incidents.
