Access to all social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube have been restricted.
Sri Lanka lost access to social media last night and remains inaccessible this morning.
Messaging applications WhatsApp, Messenger, and Telegram were also restricted to users, as they were unable to send or receive messages.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka said it restricted access to social media sites based on a request by the Defence Ministry.
