Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka claims the attack on the students of the Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya and the incident in which eggs were thrown at the vehicle of the Leader of the JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake are acts of thuggery by the government that is losing power.
Speaking to media in Colombo, MP Ranawaka said the public cannot be intimidated by such actions.
The Parliamentarian said there are two points in which such actions occur, one being when the government is at its peak while the opposition is at its weakest, and when the government is at its weakest will the opposition is gaining popularity.
He said the present administration is currently engaged in pardoning its members, making false allegations against opposition members, and attempting to intimidate the public, as they are aware that they have lost the public mandate.
He said the public will no longer be intimidated nor be misled by such actions.
When questioned by media on whether former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake will receive a Presidential pardon tomorrow, MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said they hope Ramanayake will be released since he was convicted based on non-existent laws.
He said the former MP has been imprisoned for over a year.
The MP said he presented new laws pertaining to contempt of court charges in Parliament.
MP Ranawaka said six months have lapsed since it was tabled adding the Minister of Justice failed to take necessary action.
He added therefore he will table the proposal once again in Parliament
