The Government Medical Officers’ Association says it will stage a 24-hour token strike at state hospitals in five districts, tomorrow.
The GMOA said the strike will begin at 8am. Accordingly, the trade union action will affect services at state hospitals in the Mannar, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts.
Speaking during a media briefing Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Senal Fernando said they are protesting over the deployment of post-internship doctors without the approval of the transfer board.
Dr. Fernando said a very serious situation has arisen due to the matter adding Mannar, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts are facing major issues in maintaining the health sector.
He said district offices of the GMOA had pointed out that hospitals in these districts are at the brink due to arbitrary actions, erroneous procedures and disregarding recommendations of the transfer board by the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and the Acting Director General of Health Services when posting doctors
