The Government Medical Officers Association says Sri Lanka will have to face another wave of coronavirus during the next two months, due to ignorant behaviour of the public.
Executive Committee Member Dr. Ruwan Jayasuriya said they observed that health practices are being ignored at state institutions as well.
Dr. Jayasuriya said he observed that people are behaving as the pandemic has been brought to an end after travel restrictions were lifted, as protests and large-scale gatherings are being organised.
Dr. Jayasuriya added Sri Lanka may face another wave of the coronavirus in the near future.
However, he hoped that Sri Lanka vaccinating more than 60% of its citizens would act as a safeguard from the virus.
Dr. Jayasuriya claimed that new variants of the virus are emerging, and urged the public to remain cautious.
