The island wide strike action launched by the Government Medical Officers Association is effective till 8am today (10).

The GMOA decided to withdraw from services yesterday in protest of the attack on peaceful protesters.

Speaking to NewsRadio member of the GMOA Dr. Ruwan Jayasuriya said future action in relation to the strike action will be reached at a discussion scheduled to be held today.

Dr. Jayasuriya said they condemn the assault on peaceful protesters yesterday adding that they launched the island wide strike action after hearing of yesterday’s developments.

He noted that if the government continues this agenda, continues to suppress people and trade unions, seeks to continue the state of emergency, and if people’s wishes are not being met, then the strike action will continue.

Dr. Jayasuriya said they will do their utmost to support the ongoing struggle
