The Government Medical Officers Association has urged officials to intervene and prevent an increase in malnutrition and other nutrition related concerns that could arise.
GMOA Media Committee member Dr. Prasad Colambage said a harmful situation could arise if nutrition related concerns arise in children.
He said there is a serious question pertaining to the nutrition levels in the public especially in children amidst the food crisis.
Dr. Colambage said people are facing difficulties in sourcing nutritious food with the main reason being the fuel shortage that has affected the food supply.
He noted that food items in main cities have also increased exponentially.
Dr. Colambage said the GMOA has directed the attention of the Ministry of Health to address this critical situation.
