Members of the Government Medical Officers’ Association have held discussions with officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy to obtain fuel for health sector workers.
The GMOA has informed that several issues have arisen in hospitals across the country, since doctors and hospital staff have not been able to report to duty due to the shortage of fuel.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Member of the Central Committee of the GMOA Dr. Prasad Colombage said they requested from the officials to formulate a stringent programme to provide fuel to health sector workers.
Dr. Colombage said discussions were held pertaining to providing fuel to health sector workers on Friday.
He said they alerted the issues faced by health workers while obtaining fuel from specific filling stations.
Dr. Prasad Colombage noted that during the discussion, they emphasised the importance of providing fuel to health sector workers which will prevent the health service from collapsing.
He said therefore they are hopeful that a stringent programme will be introduced and required fuel will be released to health sector workers in the coming weeks.
