Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe believes the government will ensure journalists are not inconvenienced in future.
The MP said the public must know of the whereabouts of funds the government acquired through taxes collected from foreign teledrama telecasts.
Kumarasinghe speaking in Parliament yesterday said the tax money should be used for the welfare of artists in the teledrama and cinema industries.
The MP noted that all countries telecast foreign dramas, while a tax was imposed for telecasts in Sri Lanka, and questioned the whereabouts of the funds.
She claimed that large sums must have been earned through the tax introduced last year.
She urged the government to use the funds to develop the cinema and teledrama industry in the country.
Meanwhile, MP Geetha Kumarasinghe urged Yohani de Silva, who she said has been embraced world over, to not give her popularity to politics.
