The Consumer Affairs Authority has refuted claims that attempts are underway to amend or abolish the Gazette Notification issued over the price of rice.
Issuing a statement the Authority said according to the Gazette issued on the 2nd of May, a kilogram of nadu rice is being sold at Rs.220, a kilogram of samba at Rs.230, and keeri samba at Rs.260.
The statement noted the Authority has no intention of amending or increasing rice prices.
The Consumer Affairs Authority said those found to be selling rice at higher rates in violation of this regulation will be fined Rs.500,000 or issued a six month prison sentence.
