An extraordinary gazette has been issued declaring Jayantha Ketagoda as a Member of Parliament.
His name was gazetted by the National Election Commission to fill the vacancy created following the resignation of Ajith Nivard Cabraal as a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National List MP.
The gazette has been signed by the Chairman of the Election Commission Nimal Punchihewa and four other members.
Accordingly, Jayantha Ketagoda will take oaths as a Member of Parliament once again in the near future.
Ajith Nivard Cabraal tendered his resignation on Monday and was later appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank.
Ketagoda who entered Parliament through the SLPP National List after the 2020 General Election resigned as a MP in July, paving way for Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa to enter Parliament.
Although Jayantha Ketagoda was tipped to receive an Ambassadorial post, he remained in the country after stepping down from Parliament.
