The non-partisan peaceful people’s struggle at Galle Face marks its 50th day today (28).
The protests opposite the Presidential Secretariat commenced on the 9th of April.
People from all walks of life have since gathered at Galle Face pledging their support to the indefinite protests.
The public is repeatedly demanding the government to provide solutions to the economic and political crisis in the country.
In addition to the protests at GotaGoGama, protests have been staged in several other parts of the country as well, demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and the government.
Protesters have made plans to celebrate the 50th day of continuous protests through various activities organised during the day.
Accordingly, protesters request the public to arrive at Galle Face at 2pm today with a black flag, or to gather at the closest city.
The protesters at Galle Face also request the public in fuel queues to be dressed in black and take with them a black flag as a mark of protest against the present government.
Meanwhile, a musical and cultural show to mark the protest is due to be held at Galle Face from 6:30pm.
Speaking to NewsRadio social media activist Rathindu Senaratne said they will hand over a peoples mandate to the President via a protest March from the Colpetty Junction beginning at 2 PM.
Senaratne condemned the unlawful arrest of peaceful protestors under charges of inciting violence on the 9th of May.
He said the mandate to the President will request him to stop such illegal arrests while also calling for him to step down.
