The Federation of University Teachers Association and the university community will engage in a protest outside the Open University in Nawala at noon today, in support of the trade union struggle by teachers and principals.
Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe speaking to NewsRadio said FUTA representatives will unconditionally support the strike action.
He said they have held talks with several unions and sought their support over the union action.
Jayasinghe said the Federation of University Teachers Association has continuously supported the teacher principal strike action adding that teachers and principals will also join today’s protest opposite the Open University.
Jayasinghe said the 9th of November has been declared a ‘national protest day’ with unions in all sectors in the country including farmers and fishermen set to hold protests.
He added their strike action will be intensified if demands are not addressed through the 2022 Budget.
