Anunayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Wedaruwe Upali Thera says people’s fundamental needs must be fulfilled in order for independence to have true meaning.
Upali Thera said today marks the 74th year since Sri Lanka gained independence adding however the public is unable to enjoy independence, due to the 30 year long conflict.
The Thera added therefore the country moved backwards instead of forward.
Upali Thera said therefore the country has not been experiencing independence fully.
Meanwhile Anunayake Thera of the Malwathu Chapter Ven. Dimbul Kumbure Wimaladhamma Thera said all factions must unite in order to take the country forward.
Wimaladhamma Thera said the country is facing several issues at present adding the setbacks must be overcome for citizens to live independently.
The Thera noted he hoped to obtain the assistance of the ruling party in this regard and the support of the opposition for projects to uplift the country.
The Thera stated if the public continues to level allegations against each other and fail to fulfil responsibilities, it will be detrimental to the country.
