Venerable Omalpe Sobitha thera says luxury vehicles should not be issued fuel amidst the fuel crisis.
Speaking to media in Embilipitiya today, the venerable said luxury vehicles require a significant volume of fuel.
The Thera said certain luxury vehicles only complete 3-4 kilometres per litre and questioned why Sri Lanka requires such luxury vehicles.
The Thera said as an alternative, the public transportation sector must be developed. Sobitha thera added fuel stocks must be used sparingly and requested the public to refrain from storing fuel unnecessarily.
The venerable noted that Members of Parliament must also be held responsible for misusing fuel stocks.
Sobitha Thera said the government including the Prime Minister is making predictions that a fuel shortage is impending, compelling the public to store fuel and use illegal means to acquire stocks.
The venerable charged that such practices have led to a massive fuel shortage at present.
