The shortage of fuel in the country is likely to disrupt daily activities of many hospitals.
A spokesman for the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital said doctors and other hospital staff are facing difficulties in reporting to work owing to the fuel crisis.
The spokesman said hospital activities could be disrupted in the future if a stringent programme to obtain fuel for doctors and hospital staff is not introduced.
Requests have been made to provide fuel to doctors and hospital staff on a priority basis.
However, the spokesman said issues arose in obtaining fuel by submitting letters owing to the long queues at petrol stations.
Meanwhile, hospital sources said non-urgent surgeries have been limited at the Colombo National Hospital while emergency surgeries have been prioritised.
