The Trade Union Coordinating Centre says the Tourism Industry has been severely affected due to the prevailing fuel crisis.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo, Convener Wasantha Samarasinghe claimed that the government does not possess any plans to develop the tourism industry.
Samarasinghe said the next tourist season is set to commence within two to three months with potential tourists carrying out research as to which destination to visit.
He claimed any tourist observing Sri Lanka’s situation will notice the prevailing fuel queues adding they will come to the realization that they too will have to waste an entire day in a queue to pump fuel.
Wasantha Samarasinghe noted that tourists visit Sri Lanka in order to enjoy their holiday and not to spend their time in queues.
Samarasinghe said the country’s leaders must take necessary steps to develop the tourism industry in order bring in dollars.
He claimed it is evident that the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the subject Minister are not in the same page due to each individual conducting separate meetings with stakeholders of the industry.
