Steps have been taken to provide fuel coupons to those engaged in the tourism industry, to counter on-going the fuel crisis.
The program will be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, the Sri Lanka Transport Board and the Sri Lanka Army.
Accordingly, Minister of Tourism and Lands Harin Fernando said drivers registered with the Tourism Ministry can obtain fuel coupons after submitting their itinerary to the Ministry.
According to the Tourism Ministry, around 1,000 drivers have received fuel coupons through the program.
Minister Fernando had noted that drivers can also visit the office of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and provide the relevant information and obtain the relevant fuel coupons.
The Tourism Ministry however has noted that fuel coupons will not be issued to those who submit only their tourist ID card.
Meanwhile, Minister Harin Fernando has said there was an increase of 8.8 percent in the arrival of tourists this month.
