Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says he hopes to introduce a four day work week for state workers beginning next week.
Accordingly, the state sector will work on the first four days of the week and have Friday as a holiday.
Speaking to media, the Minister said they are hoping to cut additional transportation costs spent on state sector employees, in line with increasing fuel prices.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said state employees who engage in agricultural activities during their extra off day will receive support from the Ministry of Public Administration and Management.
The Minister said they hope to bridge the deficit in rice harvest which had decreased compared to last year.
