Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, who is part of the people’s struggle, has filed a fundamental rights petition before the Supreme Court requesting an order preventing his arrest.
Several individuals including the Inspector General of Police, the Commander of the Army, the Commander of the Navy, the Attorney General, and the Senior DIG in Charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon have been cited as respondents in the petition.
Fr. Jeewantha Peiris said the respondents are attempting to arrest him without any basis, adding that such an arrest is a violation of his fundamental rights.
Therefore, Fr. Peiris requested the Supreme Court to issue an order preventing his arrest.
